Radiant Service

Radiant is a new private cloud computing service and is operated by NCSA for the benefit of NCSA and UI staff. Customers can purchase VM's, computing time in cores, storage of various types and public IP's for use with their VM's.

Service Description

Through Radiant we provide projects an in-house elastic and scalable cloud environment. The Radiant system will allow projects to request allocation at a cost listed below, that will give them access to a state of the art environment. Each project will be encapsulated, and other users of the Radiant system will not be able to disrupt machines running as part of your project. Using a web interface or API you can create new virtual machines that are based on pre-populated base images. You will be able to fully customize these virtual machines, and what additional software you install on these machines. For example you can use multiple of these virtual machines to create a Kubernetes cluster in which you can run your containers. Additionally Radiant will allow your virtual machines to either have a private IP address that will only be reachable by other virtual machines in your project, or you can choose a public IP address that will allow others from the outside to reach your virtual machine. Finally Radiant will be connected using a fast network connection to the large center wide storage infrastructure, where you can host your data. This will allow you to do computation right next to your data, and not have to worry about transferring your data to your virtual machines.
