I regret to have to tell you that I cannot make the meeting. Delays at the airport have prevented me from participating today (my flight was supposed to depart at 7:20 AM and has been postponed to 1:30 and will likely be cancelled) and I was going to have to leave early on Friday anyways. So, I made the decision not to travel for one day.
I am very interested in reading the report from the meeting. There is a unique need for software in support of high-performance computing which:
1. is essential for research progress among multiple academic disciplines, but general enough that no one discipline wants to take ownership
2. is not a fit for the private sector as it does not have sufficient market return for commercial viability
3. is not a fit for the open source community as it requires expertise and access to HPC systems
NSF is a critical partner for such software. Have a good workshop.
I hope to see you at SC11 and plan to attend the PTP meeting on that Wednesday evening.
