Agenda:

  • Welcome and Updates - Kenton
    •  Masks are not required, but do what you feel comfortable
    • Bill Gropp has restructured the executive committee
    • Major Projects Initiatives - several of the software folks are on this committee, perhaps like the old cabinet meetings, it is a live group and may change as needed
    • Painting is expected to be on 2 in July
    • Faculty fellows - please let Kenton know if you have been asked to work with a fellow
    • Delta is in early stages - go into production mid-summer.  We have discretionary access to this machine
    • Quantum computing - NCSA has been asked to work with campus on this
    • Emily Scherbring will be leaving and moving to Tennessee on June 24
    • Michael Johnson will be joining the SD3 group effective immediately
    • Kenton is working with a robot to see if people working remotely can attend meetings using the robot.
  • Katie shared responses on how we want this meeting to evolve
    • Charles project - Mayo and genomic sequencing, with a Mayo cloud.  VA was invited to meet the needs of the clinicians and PI's.  We want to set up a "dating" site for researchers to see who else is working on specific projects that might mesh.
    • Jessica GBS project with Mayo - their projects starts with many apps to find the common features in the many apps.  What do we want to do with a style guide here at NCSA?
    • Max will be mentoring a few students getting food, farmers and food banks to meet the needs of those in need of food and who has surpluses in food.
    • Lisa G was able to hire a new UX person. Li Fu will start August 8th
    • FAngyu Zhou will be moving to Champaign next month
    • Matt - Chad, Lisa and Jessica received a Shout Out for all of their work on VA - our new High Five initiative
    • Peter Grove will be leaving at the end of month.
    • Cyber Ambassadors is an NSF funded in communication.  Many of us became a certified cyber ambassador, but training is continuous, both in person and online. The in person begins this fall semester.
    • Luigi - to streamline SWG, we have created leads for focus groups (Minu and Sandeep) Round Tables (Lisa Y, Max and Sandeep).
    • Data Scientists and Research Software Engineers
    • Rob will have a total power outage on July 10 at NCSA.
    • Ben went to a conference in Paris on analysis ecosystems.  Magic things happen when you meet in person.
