1. Vani Mandava (MS Research) on the MS-BD Hubs Partnership and A=MBDH Azure opportunities

      Notes on Vani's presentation:

  • Overview of Cloud-based research and MS contribution in this space
  • Azure worldwide - ~1500 grants over last 3 years; driving collaboration between CS and domain scientists; <50% allocations to domain science
  • Slide on the framework and assets of the MS Research-BD Hubs informal agreement
  • Projects in Midwest region AND impacts of these
    • Precision Ag and Ranveer Chandra (MS Research)
    • Transportation (ISU project) with Iowa State Dept. of Transportation, and MS Iowa office
    • Other types of engagement - collaboration with West Hub and South Hub for "democratizing data science"    NOTE:**  MBDH - is focusing on DS for non-R1s, and will be working with National Data Service and other partners to open educational resources.

a. update on NSF plans for BD Hubs plan 

      Exact shape and form (and release date) are still up in the air, but we will brief you as soon as we know. We do not expect a major shift in direction, so we'll be thinking about how to do these things better and potential innovations.  We'll be thinking about this and sustainability, as this is likely to be the final 


b. New dates for All Hands - Nov. 6-7; SC meeting Nov. 5th in PM - Cleveland @CWRU

3. New Business  

        a.  Jim Barkley: IoT World Conference - presented and included MBDH. Question from VP at TopCon - Precision Ag, and Jim pointed him to Joe Colletti. Water and Energy also big topic, and some manufacturing.
