Discussion:

There are existing channels for various interests and this could organically turn into a formal interest group.  These groups are not high pressure and there is no time frame set, but it gives an opportunity for people from various groups that don't often interact, to get together and talk about similar topics of interest.  This can also give you an opportunity to present to the software directorate or the entire NCSA team in a lightning talk.  This will make it easier to keep up with emerging technologies and give us direct contact with other groups both within NCSA and across campus.  This  could also lead to a proposal!

How to we announce new groups or advertise?  Suggestions are wikipage, google spreadsheet, slack announcements, polls, webforms?  Start with a passion!

How do we choose topics?  There should be a passion, or there should be a topic that you hear buzz about, but no one knows anything about it.  Interested?  Start an interest group where you read up on the topic, but you can learn as a group, rather than as an individual.  What's the next newest greatest thing coming down the pike?

How can the center ease the pressure of doing the interest group after hours?
