Dear XXXX,

I have been charged by the Vice Chancellor for Research to convene an ad hoc committee to advise me, as the NCSA Director, on the opportunities and mechanisms for effective partnerships of NCSA with other campus units.  I would like to invite you to serve on this Committee for Research and Education at NCSA (CREN), which will be co-chaired by Professors Gabrielle Allen (Astronomy) and Bill Gropp (CS).

One of my top priorities as NCSA Director is to develop broad and deep research and education relationships with campus units.  NCSA can play a critical role at Illinois in fostering interdisciplinary research and education in a compute and data-intense world, and I would very much welcome your input and advice on how best to achieve this.

I appreciate that your time is valuable, and I would like to assure you that we will try to keep meetings for this committee short and productive. The committee is being asked to present a report in the Fall, and I anticipate that along with a few meetings of the entire committee you may be asked to meet with other appropriate stakeholders on the campus.

I have included in this mail the charge and charter for the CREN committee. Please feel free to contact me with any questions,

Thank you for considering this request,

Ed
