This is the home of the Survey on Cloud Computing Technology space at NCSA. This effort was initially funded by the NCSA Director's Office during the summer of 2011 as a strategic investigation on Cloud computing. Please contact Yong Liu <yongliu AT ncsa.illinois.edu> or Jong Lee <jonglee AT ncsa.illinois.edu> if you have any questions regarding this survey.
Objectives:
- Find and survey available Cloud computing platforms and services including both public clouds such as Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure and open source cloud platforms such as openStack, Nimbus, etc.
- Survey scientific literatures for scientific applications, use cases and success stories using Cloud computing or hybrid usage of both Cloud and High Performance Computing (HPC) - supercomputers
- Investigate and identify the gaps between current science cloud applications and the data-intensive science and engineering needs
- Search, document and possibly experiment with cloud-based software tools, middlewares, and libraries such as Hadoop, jClouds, etc. in the areas of storage, computing, collaboration, security and interoperability
- Write a white paper that describes these findings
